Heya <<First Name>>,

One of the coolest acts of parenting I’ve ever seen was from this dad I’d watch every morning on my old Seattle bus commute.

He’d nestle into a seat near the front with his daughter and read to her for the 15 minutes it took to go from the Roosevelt neighborhood to her preschool in Wallingford.

I dig that memory because it reminds me that reading aloud doesn’t have to look like anything specific. As Meghan Cox Gurdon writes in her book “The Enchanted Hour”:

Start small. Start where you are. Start today! There is no need to be heroic and commit to an endless future of reading aloud, or to a three-month trial period … Just begin. Pick up a book, or a magazine, or a cereal box and try reading it out loud to someone you love.

Speaking of “The Enchanted Hour,” I can’t recommend it enough.

In fact, I was so excited about it that I wrote to Meghan and asked if I could share some of her book recommendations.

She said “Sure,” so I’ll be posting some of them on our Read-Aloud Rec Room Facebook group.

Please join if you haven’t yet, and share your own faves.

Quentin, our quokka mascot, takes a trip

Last week, we headed out of Seattle and drove over the mountains …

… through Oregon and Idaho …

… and into Utah.

We are having lots of adventures …

And spreading the word.

Happy reading,

Jeff, Bob, and Zoe …
… who believe that reading with kids can change the world for the better

PS. The graffiti was already there. 🙂

Read our current story: “Jack Jenk Shouts Love”

Jack Jenk is an outsized 5th-grade boy destined for a football future until a homework assignment sends his life cartwheeling off in an unexpected, and uncomfortable, new direction.

Let me know if you’d like a PDF copy of the entire story.

Fancy foxes?

In the old days, Foxes were known for one thing: going in straight lines.

But one fox was different.
