Heya, friends.
Hope you had a good week reading.
It’s 320 Sycamore Studios here with your weekly read-aloud animal rhyme. (Next month, we’ll be sharing the story “How the Fox Got Its Meander.”)
Last week it was the platyphant. This week, meet the blobfish!
The Blobfish
Deep deep deep below the surface of the rollicking Tasman Sea, wrapped in that Down Under darkness, there bobs a blobby oddity
who likes it there, apparently. The blobfish drifts from here to there, pees where he pleases, eats debris, wins ugly pageants, doesn’t care.
“Ugly pageants”? Hey, that’s fishy, saying which fish isn’t handsome. Sure, he’s soggy, cold, and squishy, but opinions can be land-some.
The deep has dense intensity, so he’s always under pressure. That he exists contentedly speaks to beauty we can’t measure.
Think of him when you feel heavy or when your spirit needs a lift. He’s always where he wants to be. To be so present is a gift.
See you next week with a flug (half flamingo, half slug).

PS. A wonderful Seattle illustrator (and our friend) Kyle Krauskopf is working on some paintings for a book we have coming out later this summer. It’s called “I Love U.” Here’s a sneak peek at “used unicycle.” Hope you like it.
PPS. Our Big Idea for this month is called Word Things. You can get them on T-shirts.
